Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 445 PM EDT Wed May 28 2014 Valid 00Z Thu May 29 2014 - 00Z Sat May 31 2014 ***Slow moving storm system over the south-central U.S.*** ***Cooler air arriving for the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic*** ***Cold front out West will bring showers and cooler weather*** A moisture-rich disturbance over the Deep South is resulting in the development of numerous showers and thunderstorms from Louisiana to Alabama. Through Thursday, deep southerly flow from the Gulf of Mexico will interact with a mid-upper level low that will slowly weaken by the end of the week. Heavy rainfall will be the main threat with this system. For the East Coast, a back-door cold front is forecast to drop towards the southwest over the Mid-Atlantic and eventually to the Carolinas by Thursday night. This will bring a welcomed and refreshing change from the recent hot weather for the Mid-Atlantic region beginning on Thursday. Ahead of the front, scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop. A Pacific front moving across the Inter-Mountain West will also bring cooler weather to much of the West Coast and Rocky Mountains by the end of the week. Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms are likely to develop in the vicinity of the northern portion of the front, and also near the upper low that is forecast to move over Washington state and into British Columbia.
