Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 543 PM EDT Fri May 30 2014 Valid 00Z Sat May 31 2014 - 00Z Mon Jun 2 2014 ***Scattered showers and storms over the Southern U.S.*** ***Additional showers and storms for the Rockies and Plains*** ***Wonderful weekend from the East Coast and Ohio Valley*** Scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecast to continue for the southern U.S from Texas to Georgia for this weekend owing to a weakening upper level low near the central Gulf Coast, and a frontal boundary near the southeast Coast. Rainfall coverage and intensity is expected to be less than the previous few days, but there will likely be some areas of organized convection where localized flooding is possible. Over the Rockies and extending over the northern Plains, a slow moving cold front is moving into a warm and unstable airmass and this will fuel the development of scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms. A few areas of organized convection are likely to develop near the frontal boundary, and severe weather may be an issue over the Dakotas. Over the Northeast U.S. and extending into the Mid-Atlantic and Ohio Valley, a very pleasant late spring/early summer weekend can be expected as a surface high from eastern Canada brings cooler and drier weather into the region after the passage of a back-door cold front. It will feel more summer-like for next week as southerly flow returns to the region. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
