Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 439 AM EDT Sun Jun 01 2014 Valid 12Z Sun Jun 01 2014 - 12Z Tue Jun 03 2014 ...Flash flooding possible across much of the Upper Mississippi Valley on Sunday... ...Severe weather could threaten portions of the Central Plains... ...Shower and thunderstorm activity will continue over the Central Gulf Coast states... Unsettled weather is expected across a large portion of the north central U.S. for the remainder of the weekend and into early this week. The heaviest and most organized precipitation will initially be with a frontal boundary stalled out over Minnesota...which could lead to flash flooding across much of the Upper Mississippi Valley on Sunday. As upstream energy swings east of the Rockies...the focus will shift to precipitation breaking out with a deepening surface low lifting through the Upper Midwest and it's trailing cold front pushing across the Central Plains and Middle Mississippi Valley. A relatively moist and unstable airmass in place will allow for widespread showers and thunderstorms...and storms developing across the central Plains will have the potential to produce severe weather. The remains of an upper low weakening over the south central U.S. will continue to foster showers and thunderstorms across the Central Gulf Coast states Sunday and Monday. Compared to recent days...activity should be isolated to scattered in nature. Strong high pressure set up over the Eastern Seaboard will make for another dry and pleasant day across much of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states on Sunday...but temperatures and dew points will be increasing on Monday as an upper ridge slides in over the Eastern U.S.. Locations west of the Continental Divide should stay precipitation free over the next few days; however, a trough moving in aloft could trigger very light shower activity over the northwestern corner of the Nation Monday afternoon.
