Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 333 PM EDT Sun Jun 01 2014 Valid 00Z Mon Jun 02 2014 - 00Z Wed Jun 04 2014 ...Heavy rain possible across the Upper Midwest, Upper Great Lakes, and Upper/Middle Mississippi Valley on Monday... ...Shower and thunderstorm activity will continue over the Central Gulf Coast states... A frontal boundary moving across the Plains tonight and into the Mississippi Valley tomorrow will continue to bring heavy rain and thunderstorms to places across the Upper Midwest and the Middle Mississippi Valley. Much of the thunderstorm activity appears to be fairly progressive in nature, which should limit the threat for widespread flash flooding issues. However, there is still a chance for some isolated flash flood problems, especially across portions of the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest tonight. By Monday afternoon and into Tuesday, the surface low really begins to amplify as it moves across the Upper Lakes, which shifts the heavy rain focus northward to the Upper Great Lakes, as well as eastward to portions of the Ohio Valley. Ahead of the system, an upper ridge moving over the Eastern U.S. will increase temperatures and dewpoints across the area bringing to an end the very comfortable weather experienced over the weekend. Elsewhere, the remains of a stubborn upper level low stalled out over the Lower Mississippi Valley and the Southeast continues to keep showers and thunderstorms in the forecast for the Central Gulf Coast states and into the Tennessee Valley; however, activity will be much more isolated to scattered in nature as compared to the past few days. Out west, an upper trough moving into the region could bring some light rain to some places of the Northwestern U.S. early in the work week.
