Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 427 AM EDT Mon Jun 02 2014 Valid 12Z Mon Jun 02 2014 - 12Z Wed Jun 04 2014 ...Widespread showers and thunderstorms expected ahead of a storm system pushing through the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley on Monday... ...Heavy rains and strong to severe storms developing across the Central Plains and Middle Mississippi Valley on Tuesday... Numerous showers and thunderstorms will continue to light up ahead of a storm system pushing out of the Central U.S. early this week while the deepening surface low lifts northeastward into Ontario and the trailing cold front sweeps eastward across the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley. Precipitation developing in a warm and juicy airmass in place will allow for organized areas of convection containing heavy downpours...but the fairly progressive nature of the system will diminish any widespread threat for flash flooding. Ahead of this system...rising temperatures and dew points will deteriorate the recent dry and pleasant conditions across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states on Monday...and shower and thunderstorm activity should begin impacting locations east of the Appalachians by Tuesday. Conditions will be relatively quiet across the Central Plains on Monday...but vigorous upper energy streaking northeastward out of southern California will help strengthen a frontal boundary stretched through the region on Tuesday. An axis of heavy rains....with embedded strong to severe storms...should set up to the north of the front...impacting locations from Nebraska to northern Missouri and southern Iowa. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible over Florida and across the Central Gulf Coast states the next few days. Although activity should be mostly scattered in nature...storms will be developing in a very warm and moist airmass and could contain localized areas of heavy rains.
