Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 452 PM EDT Thu Jun 05 2014 Valid 00Z Fri Jun 06 2014 - 00Z Sun Jun 08 2014 ...Heavy rains and thunderstorms expected for the Plains and Southeast along the frontal boundary the next few days... A band of convection originating in the central Plains Thursday morning is continuing to progress eastward across the Southeast and Tennessee Valley. This cluster of thunderstorms is advancing alongside a slow moving boundary which will provide focus for convection through the short term period. With an abundance of moisture and instability in place, flash flooding and severe weather is expected for the Plains to the Mississippi Valley and portions of the Southeast and Tennessee Valley on Thursday and well into the weekend. The northern Plains can expect showers and thunderstorms ahead of a strong cold front swooping across the region. From Thursday evening and into Saturday, scattered convection can be expected for the northern Plains and portions of the northern Rockies. Once the front quickly moves cross the Upper Great Lakes by Friday afternoon, the convective activity will also follow suit and spread eastward across the Upper Midwest. Showers will continue well into the weekend for the Northeast. A strengthening surface low will move northeastward along the New England coastline towards Nova Scotia. Even as the low departs to Canada, rain will wrap around the low to continue the delivery of rain for most of New England. Elsewhere, the West Coast is expected to stay dry over the next three days.
