Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 343 AM EDT Fri Jun 6 2014 Valid 12Z Fri Jun 6 2014 - 12Z Sun Jun 8 2014 ***Stormy skies for the Central Plains*** ***Lingering showers for eastern New England*** ***Heat wave for the Desert Southwest*** An active weather pattern is forecast to continue across the central Plains and into the Deep South with a stationary front in place through Saturday. Disturbances aloft, along with an abundance of moisture and instability in place, are expected to result in the development of multiple mesoscale convective complexes, or MCSs. These will be capable of producing localized flash flooding and severe weather. Very warm and humid conditions extending into Texas and the Deep South will provide an environment favorable for scattered to numerous showers and storms, mainly during the afternoons and evenings. Across the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest, a cold front dropping southward out of Canada is expected to bring a high quality air mass with cool mornings and pleasant afternoons. Showers and storms are likely to develop ahead of this front. Once the front quickly moves across the Upper Great Lakes by Friday afternoon, the stormy weather will also spread eastward across the Upper Midwest. Showers will continue into Saturday for eastern New England. A slow-moving surface low will move northeastward towards Nova Scotia. Even as the low departs into Canada, moisture will wrap around the low to keep scattered showers around for Maine. Elsewhere across the continental U.S., the West Coast is expected to stay dry through this weekend with no weather disturbances expected to affect that region. It will be very hot for the Desert Southwest with high temperatures approaching 110 degrees for the lower elevations of interior southern California, Nevada, and Arizona.
