Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 408 AM EDT Sat Jun 7 2014 Valid 12Z Sat Jun 7 2014 - 12Z Mon Jun 9 2014 ***Heavy rain and severe storms for the Central Plains*** ***High quality air mass for the north-central U.S.*** ***Heat wave for the Desert Southwest*** An active weather pattern is forecast to continue across the central Plains and into the Deep South with a stationary front in place through the weekend. Disturbances aloft, along with an abundance of moisture and instability in place, are expected to result in the development of multiple mesoscale convective complexes, or MCSs. These will be capable of producing localized flash flooding and severe weather. Very warm and humid conditions extending into Texas and the Deep South will provide an environment favorable for scattered to numerous showers and storms, mainly during the afternoons and evenings. Across the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest, much cooler weather has arrived after the passage of a cold front from Canada. This quality air mass by June standards will be featured by cool, crisp mornings, and mild afternoons. A few showers will be possible over the western Dakotas and into Wyoming and Montana on Saturday, but it should be dry farther to the east towards the Upper Midwest once the showers and storms with the cold front moves out of the area. Elsewhere across the continental U.S., the West Coast is expected to stay dry through this weekend with no weather disturbances expected to affect that region. It will be very hot for the Desert Southwest with high temperatures approaching 110 degrees for the lower elevations of interior southern California, Nevada, and Arizona.
