Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 310 PM EDT Sat Jun 07 2014 Valid 00Z Sun Jun 08 2014 - 00Z Tue Jun 10 2014 ***Heavy rain and possible flash flooding in the Southern and Central Plains*** ***Rain and showers move from the Midwest across the Ohio Valley into the Mid Atlantic states*** ***Cooler weather spreading across the Rockies to the Northern Plains*** Hot weather is confined only to the extreme southern states while an active weather pattern will continue to spread showers and thunderstorms to several areas of the nation and cool air will make its presence felt across the Rockies into the Northern Plains states. An area of showers and thunderstorms today over the middle Mississippi Valley will move slowly eastward across the lower Midwest, Ohio Valley into Sunday and then spread across the Appalachians into parts of the Middle Atlantic states later on Sunday into early Monday. Warm and humid conditions will be found across the Southeast and Gulf Coast with some scattered thunderstorms especially in the afternoon. A series of upper level disturbances interacting with a nearly stationary surface front over the Southern Plains will focus an area of showers and thunderstorms over the next several days across northern Texas into Oklahoma, Arkansas and southern Missouri. Some of this rainfall will be quite heavy and persistent and flood watches have been posted across much of this region for the threat of flash flooding. A stronger upper system will develop later Sunday and continue the threat for heavy rain near the Texas-Oklahoma border and may also increase the threat for heavy rainfall farther north along the eastern slopes of the Rockies into the Central Plains late Sunday into Monday.
