Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 408 AM EDT Sun Jun 8 2014 Valid 12Z Sun Jun 8 2014 - 12Z Tue Jun 10 2014 ***Bad weather continues across the Central U.S. through Monday*** ***Pleasant temperatures for the northern tier states*** ***Hot and dry weather for the Desert Southwest*** Additional stormy weather is expected from the central High Plains to the Deep South through the beginning of the work week. A stalled frontal boundary in the presence of deep and moist southerly flow will help to generate multiple thunderstorm complexes that will travel from west to east. Widespread heavy rainfall is indeed a concern over this region as multiple thunderstorm cells train repeatedly over the same areas, and flash flooding may result. Scattered severe storms are likely over parts of Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas, and isolated severe storms for the Deep South and Tennessee Valley. A closed upper level low is forecast to develop by Monday over the central Plains, and this will continue the heavy rain and strong storms over the region. Farther to the north across the northern Plains, Upper Midwest, and Great Lakes region, pleasant temperatures and lower humidity will be enjoyed for the next couple of days as these areas will remain north of the frontal boundary situated over the Central U.S. The quality air mass that was in place over the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast recently will transition to a warmer and increasingly humid air mass as southerly flow returns to this area. Elsewhere across the continental U.S., the West Coast is expected to stay dry through early this week with no weather disturbances expected to affect that region. It will be very hot for the Desert Southwest with high temperatures approaching 110 degrees for the lower elevations of interior southern California, Nevada, and Arizona.
