Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 349 AM EDT Thu Jun 12 2014 Valid 12Z Thu Jun 12 2014 - 12Z Sat Jun 14 2014 ***Unsettled weather east of the Mississippi River*** ***Cold front expected to reach the East Coast by the weekend*** ***Developing surface low and cold front for Northwest U.S.*** Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be quite common throughout much of the Eastern U.S. through the end of the week. There will be some forcing aloft, along with a slowly retreating warm front near the Mid-Atlantic coast and other weak surface boundaries, to generate areas of organized rainfall and embedded thunderstorm activity from Florida to New England. Some of the rainfall will be locally heavy and may be enough to result in some flooding issues. A cold front progressing eastward from the Central U.S. is forecast to reach the East Coast in time for the weekend. Before its arrival, expect very warm and humid conditions for the Eastern U.S. Another round of showers and strong thunderstorms is likely ahead of this front. Hot and dry weather will continue for the Desert Southwest, and pleasant conditions will continue for the California Coast. By the end of the week, a developing surface low and cold front over the Pacific Northwest and Inter-Mountain West will bring the chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms from Washington state to the northern Rockies by Thursday evening. This is in response to the upper level moving towards the Pacific Northwest that is forecast to move inland over the Northwest U.S. This will also allow temperatures to cool off some in this region to close out the week.
