Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 453 PM EDT Thu Jun 12 2014 Valid 00Z Fri Jun 13 2014 - 00Z Sun Jun 15 2014 ...Muggy and stormy conditions will persist into Friday for locations east of the Appalachians... ...Showers and thunderstorms possible ahead of a cold front pushing from the Southern Plains to the Lower Mississippi Valley... ...Cool and unsettled weather expected with a strong cold front dropping through the northwestern corner of the Nation late this week... Numerous showers and thunderstorms will continue to fire up within a muggy and unstable airmass in place east of the Appalachians Thursday night into Friday. Convection developing from the Mid-Atlantic region to the Northeast will not necessarily be very organized...but isolated areas of flash flooding will still be possible as storms containing heavy downpours train over the same location. A cold front approaching from the Midwest on Friday should finally begin dry things out over the Eastern U.S. once it pushes offshore. However...a surface low spinning up off the New England coast will keep conditions unsettled across portions of the Northeast through Saturday. Showers and thunderstorms are expected ahead of a cold front pushing from the Southern Plains to the Lower Mississippi Valley Thursday evening into Friday. Weak energy moving through aloft could help organize developing convection...leading to the potential for some strong to severe storms. By Friday evening...thunderstorm activity with the front should become more scattered in nature as the energy aloft lifts northeastward and the boundary weakens over the southeastern U.S.. Cool and unsettled weather is expected with a strong cold front dropping southeastward out of the Northwest late this week. A modest amount of Pacific moisture streaming inland...combined with orographic effects...should lead to moderate to heavy totals along the upslope side of the terrain across the Pacific Northwest. Also...the front could trigger an organized band of heavy rains and thunderstorms as it pushes out into the Northern Plains early Saturday.
