Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 450 AM EDT Sat Jun 14 2014 Valid 12Z Sat Jun 14 2014 - 12Z Mon Jun 16 2014 ...Widespread showers and thunderstorms will move through the northern Plains... ...Wet period continues for the Pacific Northwest and northern Rockies... The beginning of the weekend will be quite active for the northern Plains and Rockies as a surface front, being driven by a deepening upper level low, skirts across these regions. Ahead of the incoming front, ingredients are ripe for the risk of flash flooding on Saturday for portions of the Plains and Upper Midwest. By Sunday evening, the front will lift north into the Great Lakes/Canada which will subsequently bring dry conditions for the northern Plains. However, a band of precipitation will follow into the Mississippi Valley by Sunday ahead of the cold front. Stormy weather will also stick around the Great Lakes and Canada on Sunday. Scattered showers will persist for the Pacific Northwest throughout the short term period. An incoming front from the Pacific will begin to move through British Columbia by Saturday afternoon and will move through the Pacific Northwest by Sunday morning. These showers will also be expected to linger behind the front, although in light amounts. Showers and thunderstorms will continue for the northern Rockies throughout the weekend. The front which has brought moderate rainfall to New England will lift north and will be in Canada by Saturday afternoon. Thus, showers and thunderstorms will be expected for most of New England. The precipitation will begin to taper off by Sunday evening as the front moves offshore into the Atlantic. Elsewhere, typical afternoon thunderstorms will fire up in the Southeast and especially Florida during the weekend. Fanning Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
