Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 455 PM EDT Sat Jun 21 2014 Valid 00Z Sun Jun 22 2014 - 00Z Tue Jun 24 2014 ***Periods of rain and thunderstorms for the Central U.S.*** ***Milder temperatures for the Northeast U.S. and Mid-Atlantic*** ***Dry weather pattern for the West Coast*** A relatively zonal flow pattern aloft will allow for progressive weather systems across the continental U.S. A frontal boundary situated across the Great Plains and into the Upper Midwest will be the primary forcing for multiple rounds of showers and storms, and some of these will be over saturated grounds. This will only exacerbate ongoing flooding issues. Airmass-type thunderstorms are likely to develop each afternoon across Texas and the Deep South with a hot and humid environment in place. Across the East Coast, a cold front moving slowly towards the south has delivered cooler weather for the Northeast and into the northern Mid-Atlantic by Saturday afternoon. By Sunday, most of the East Coast states from North Carolina northward and into the eastern Ohio Valley will enjoy a quality airmass by late June standards, with highs in the 70s north to mid 80s south, along with more tolerable humidity levels. Dry and warm weather is expected for the West Coast through the beginning of next week. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
