Numerous showers and thunderstorms will continue to light up ahead of cold front slowly edging eastward through the north central U.S. this weekend. Plenty of moisture surging northward out of the Gulf will fuel heavy rains within developing storms...posing a risk of flash flooding for portions of the Dakotas and Middle Mississippi Valley. Widespread severe weather will also be a threat with this system...impacting locations from the Upper Mississippi Valley to the Central Plains. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible within a warm and unstable airmass in place across the southeastern quarter of the Nation. The best chance for any organized activity will be along a frontal boundary stretched through the Carolinas on Saturday. The boundary will weaken a bit on Sunday...but a surface low developing along the front is expected to bring continued rain and thunderstorm activity into the Carolinas as it spins off the Southeast coast. A series of impulses aloft...combined with persistent onshore flow...will keep conditions relatively cool and unsettled from the Pacific Northwest to the Northern Rockies this weekend. Precipitation should stay mainly light...with the exception of some higher amounts along the favored slopes of the terrain. An upper ridge building in should bring drier and warmer weather to the northwestern corner of the Country by the start of the work week.
