Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 425 AM EDT Sun Jun 29 2014 Valid 12Z Sun Jun 29 2014 - 12Z Tue Jul 01 2014 ...Flash flooding and severe weather possible for portions of the Middle Mississippi Valley... ...A deep surface cyclone lifting into Canada will keep conditions cool and unsettled over the north central U.S.... ...A surface low spinning in the Atlantic could bring rain and thunderstorms into coastal areas of the Southeast... Showers and thunderstorms will continue to fire up ahead of a cold front pushing eastward out of the north central U.S. on Sunday. A moist and unstable environment in place could allow for developing storms to contain locally heavy rains across a large portion of the Middle Mississippi...Tennessee...and Ohio Valleys. The best chance for any organized activity...and greatest potential for flash flooding and severe weather...will be over Iowa and northern Missouri...where the cold front is expected to stall out and linger across the region. Meanwhile...the anchoring surface low will continue to strengthen while gradually lifting farther into Canada on Sunday. The anomalously deep surface cyclone...and closed low aloft...will keep conditions cool and unsettled across the Northern Plains and Upper Mississippi Valley. A surface low slowly sinking southward in the western Atlantic could bring rain and thunderstorms into coastal areas of the Southeast. Although any precipitation making it inland over the next few days should be scattered and light...this low has the potential for tropical development. Please refer to the National Hurricane Center for the latest information. Another day of scattered shower activity is expected over the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies on Sunday...but conditions should begin to dry out and warm up on Monday as an upper Ridge builds in aloft.
