Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 459 AM EDT Mon Jun 30 2014 Valid 12Z Mon Jun 30 2014 - 12Z Wed Jul 02 2014 ...Flash flooding and severe weather will continue to threaten portions of the Middle to Upper Mississippi Valley on Monday... ...A surface low spinning in the western Atlantic will bring rain and thunderstorms into coastal areas of the Southeast... Showers and thunderstorms will continue to focus along a frontal boundary slowly pressing south and east through the Great Lakes...Midwest...and Central to Southern Plains early this week. Although much of the activity will be relatively scattered in nature...energy pivoting through aloft should help ignite an organized area of convection across Iowa/northern Missouri on Monday. These storms will threaten portions of the Middle to Upper Mississippi Valley with another round of flash flooding and severe weather as they propagate eastward into a warm and unstable environment. On Tuesday...the tail end of the boundary will sink southward into the Southern Plains...and the best chance for organized convection and heavy rains will be across Oklahoma and northern Texas. A surface slow dropping slowly southward in the western Atlantic will bring scattered rain and thunderstorms into coastal areas of the Southeast Monday and Tuesday. Although any significant rains should remain offshore...this system has the potential for tropical development. Please refer to the National Hurricane Center for the latest information. Elsewhere across the Nation...an anomalously deep upper low spinning over south central Canada will bring continued cool and unsettled weather to the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest. Out West...an upper ridge building in over the northwestern corner of the Country will keep conditions relatively warm and dry.
