Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 254 AM EDT Sun Jul 6 2014 Valid 12Z Sun Jul 6 2014 - 12Z Tue Jul 8 2014 ***Stormy weather for the Midwest states on Sunday and Monday*** ***Scattered showers and storms for the Southwest U.S. from monsoon*** ***High quality airmass for the East Coast becomes hotter*** The most active weather across the continental U.S. is expected over the central Plains to the Ohio Valley through the beginning of the work week. A couple of mesoscale convective complexes are likely to develop and brings several rounds of heavy rain and severe thunderstorms, especially from Nebraska to Indiana. A surface frontal boundary will help to generate the convergence necessary for thunderstorms. Strong thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are also possible near the Canadian border with a cold front moving slowly southward. Across the southwestern U.S., monsoonal flow from western Mexico will continue to fuel scattered showers and thunderstorms across the Four Corners region through the remainder of the weekend and into next week. The best coverage of storms should occur during the afternoon and evening hours with the greatest solar heating. After a few days of very pleasant weather and low humidity for the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast U.S., temperatures are forecast to warm significantly as we head into Monday and Tuesday. Highs are expected to reach the upper 80s to mid 90s with increasing levels of humidity. More stormy weather is likely for Florida and the southeastern coast as onshore flow and dynamics from a lingering front interact to keep thunderstorms in the forecast over the next few days.
