Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 346 PM EDT Wed Jul 09 2014 Valid 00Z Thu Jul 10 2014 - 00Z Sat Jul 12 2014 ...Showers and thunderstorms will continue to ignite ahead of a cold front slowly edging through the Eastern U.S.... ...Heavy rains and strong storms possible with a frontal boundary surging north through the Central Plains and Middle Mississippi Valley... ...Monsoonal moisture will continue to fuel widespread shower activity from the Southwest to the Great Basin and Central Rockies... Showers and thunderstorms will continue to ignite ahead of an unseasonably strong cold front slowly edging towards the Atlantic Coast Wednesday night. A warm and unstable airmass in place across the Eastern Seaboard could allow developing storms to contain heavy downpours and strong to severe weather. The northern portion of the front should clear the Northeast and northern Mid-Atlantic coasts by early Thursday...leaving behind cooler and noticeably drier air in it's wake; However...the boundary will struggle to press south through the Carolinas...Southeast...and Gulf Coast states. The lingering boundary should cause continued unsettled weather over the southeastern corner of the Nation through Friday. The tail end of the boundary stalled over the Southeast will remain stretched through the Lower Mississippi Valley and Texas Wednesday night before surging north through the Central Plains on Thursday and into the Middle Mississippi Valley by Friday. Increasing moisture streaming out of the Gulf...combined with weak energy streaking through aloft...should allow an organized area of convection to breakout to the north of the boundary. These storms could be strong to severe and will be capable of producing heavy rains. Elsewhere across the Country...monsoonal moisture pumping into the Intermountain West will continue to foster widespread shower and thunderstorm activity from Southwest to the Great Basin and Central Rockies. Another unseasonably strong cold front will begin to plunge south out of Western Canada...dropping temperatures as it sinks through the north central U.S. late this week.
