Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 309 AM EDT Fri Jul 11 2014 Valid 12Z Fri Jul 11 2014 - 12Z Sun Jul 13 2014 ...Showers and thunderstorms will continue to fire from the Central Plains across the Mid Mississippi Valley and into the Midwest... ...Scattered showers and thundershowers to persist from the Southeast to the Mid Atlantic region... ...Hot weather to persist across the Southern Plains states while a very cool Mid summer cold front begins to affect the Northern Plains and Upper Mississippi Valley by Sunday... A zone of possible heavy thunderstorms is expected to develop across the Central Plains into the Mid Mississippi Valley into the Midwest over the next couple of days. This zone is expected to develop between cooler air making its way south along the northern tier of the US and hot weather across the Southern Plains with monsoonal moisture across the Southwest and Rocky Mountain states fueling the development of these storms. Flash flooding and the possibility of severe weather will possibly accompany these thunderstorms. A slowly weakening nearly stationary front will be the site of numerous showers and thundershowers across the Middle Atlantic states that should gradually diminish over the weekend. However...warm and humid conditions will promote scattered showers and thundershowers across much of the Southeast with afternoon heating promoting more widespread coverage of storms. Some of the hottest weather around the country will be found across the Southern Plains where conditions will be dry but temperatures will soar into the 90s to near 100 degrees. To the west of this region...monsoonal moisture will funnel northward across the Desert Southwest and across the Great Basin and central Rockies where locally heavy thunderstorms are capable of producing localized flash flooding. A well advertised and unusually large outbreak of chilly air from Northern Canada is expected to plunge southward across central Canada early in the weekend and then continue southward into the Northern Plains and the Midwest on Sunday...where temperatures are expected to be well below normal and seem more typical of autumn than of summer.
