Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 500 AM EDT Sat Jul 26 2014 Valid 12Z Sat Jul 26 2014 - 12Z Mon Jul 28 2014 ...Flash flooding and severe weather possible across the Ohio Valley and Central Appalachians this weekend... ...Monsoonal moisture will continue to fuel afternoon showers and thunderstorms across the Southwest and Central Rockies... A potent piece of energy aloft will help ignite convection while it dives down from Canada and its associated cold front pushes southeastward out of the Upper Midwest on Saturday. These storms could become organized while moving into a warm and humid airmass setting up over the Ohio Valley...giving them the potential to contain heavy downpours and severe weather. The threat for flash flooding and severe storms will shift eastward as the front begins to cross the Appalachians on Sunday. Cooler and drier conditions are expected to fill in behind the front. Temperatures will be on a steady incline across the northern Great Basin and Northern Rockies as an expansive upper ridge over the south central U.S. begins to build northward through the region. Farther south...monsoonal moisture will continue to fuel scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms across the Southwest and Central Rockies. Heavy rains and localized flash flooding will be possible within developing storms. Gerhardt Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
