Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 500 PM EDT Mon Jul 28 2014 Valid 00Z Tue Jul 29 2014 - 00Z Thu Jul 31 2014 ...Cooler than normal July weather continues for much of the eastern half of the country... ...Summer-time showers and thunderstorms linger in Florida and near the Gulf coast... ...Monsoonal moisture will continue to deliver showers and thunderstorms across much of the interior western U.S... During the short-range forecast period, an unusually broad and deep upper-level trough is expected to remain the dominant feature over the eastern half of the country. This feature will bring a nice stretch of unusually cool and pleasant July weather into the region through mid-week. The coolest air will be found in the upper Great Lakes where temperatures are expected to drop to near 50 degrees by daybreak. Nevertheless, a new cold front will bring a reinforcing shot of cooler air from Canada by Wednesday, together with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Meanwhile, the typical summer-time heat and humidity will be shoved well to the south along the Gulf coast and into Florida with showers and thunderstorms lingering through mid-week. Out West, with an upper-level ridge remaining in place, monsoonal type showers and thunderstorms are expected to be the rule over the interior mountains through mid-week, which will be enhanced by heating during late afternoon and early evening hours. An upper-level impulse over the central/southern Rockies is forecast to trigger additional showers and thunderstorms and is expected to push them out into the central Plains by early on Wednesday. This disturbance will also initiate the southward progression of a cold front through the southern Rockies and southern Plains during the day on Wednesday. Elsewhere, weather should remain dry along the West Coast through mid-week. Kong Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
