Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 423 AM EDT Sun Aug 3 2014 Valid 12Z Sun Aug 3 2014 - 12Z Tue Aug 5 2014 ***Unsettled weather along the East Coast with stationary front*** ***Numerous showers and storms for the Inter-Mountain West*** A frontal boundary situated near the East Coast for Sunday and Monday will keep the weather pattern unsettled, with periods of rain and embedded thunderstorms from the Southeast U.S. to southern New England. Warm and humid air over-riding cooler air inland will be the main forcing mechanism for rain. Temperatures will be slightly warmer heading into the work week compared to the past couple of days. The central U.S. west of the Appalachians will enjoy mainly dry and slightly cooler than normal temperatures. A cold front will bring another round of showers and thunderstorms across the northern Plains, the Upper Midwest, and eventually the Great Lakes through Monday. Over the Desert Southwest, an upper-level low over the Desert Southwest, combined with the monsoonal moisture in place, will result in greater shower and thunderstorm activity for Arizona and New Mexico. Through Monday, the disturbance is forecast to head slowly northward and cause showers and strong thunderstorms to develop over the Great Basin and Colorado, including areas of eastern California and the Sierra Nevada.
