Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 402 AM EDT Mon Aug 4 2014 Valid 12Z Mon Aug 4 2014 - 12Z Wed Aug 6 2014 ***Scattered showers and storms for the East Coast*** ***Stormy weather continues for the Inter-Mountain West*** ***Bertha is expected to remain offshore*** A frontal boundary situated near the East Coast early this week will keep the weather pattern unsettled, with periods of showers and embedded thunderstorms from the Southeast U.S. to southern New England. By late Monday into Tuesday, a wave of low pressure center is forecast to form near the southeast coast while Tropical Storm Bertha is expected to remain well offshore. The low along the front is forecast to weaken and move out to sea by Tuesday evening, bringing a return to drier weather conditions by mid-week. Farther inland across the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes, a cold front arriving Tuesday night is expected to bring a round of showers and storms with it. For the western U.S., an upper-level low that is over the Desert Southwest along with monsoonal moisture in place is enhancing shower and thunderstorm activity over this region. Some of this rain is expected to fall over the drought-stricken regions of eastern California. Several areas of organized rainfall are likely through Tuesday over the Inter-Mountain West.
