Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 338 AM EDT Fri Aug 08 2014 Valid 12Z Fri Aug 08 2014 - 12Z Sun Aug 10 2014 A showery, unsettled period is in store for much of the central and southern United States the next two days. Rain is expected to fall along and either side of a front extending from the central Great Plains to the Carolina coast. Partly sunny and seasonably mild weather is anticipated well north of the front across the Great Lakes and the Northeast. A cold front crossing the Pacific Northwest should trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms there, edging onto the high plains of Montana, Wyoming, and the Dakotas by late Saturday. Even more widely scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected deeper into the Great Basin and along portions of the Sierra Nevada where monsoonal moisture lingers.
