Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 319 AM EDT Mon Aug 11 2014 Valid 12Z Mon Aug 11 2014 - 12Z Wed Aug 13 2014 ...Heavy rain, below normal temperatures over the Eastern U.S.... An unusually active weather pattern will bring wet and cooler conditions to the Eastern U.S. One area of low pressure in the Great Lakes and another developing in the southeast US and moving up the coast will combine to produce numerous showers and thunderstorms in advance of the lows and also near the trailing front across the Southeast and Lower Mississippi Valley. Heavier showers are expected across the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes today and then moving into the mid Atlantic and New York Tue. Another area of concern today is over previously impacted wet areas of the southeast coastal plain. A stationary front extending from the Atlantic into the southeast will be the focus of more showers today and tonight. In the west, an upper level trough approaching the west coast Tuesday will spark showers and thunderstorms across the Pacific northwest. Persistent moisture across much of the Great Basin to the desert southwest, with precipitable water values of one to two standard deviations above normal, will allow for scattered to locally numerous showers and storms across the region today and Tuesday.
