Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 331 AM EDT Tue Aug 12 2014 Valid 12Z Tue Aug 12 2014 - 12Z Thu Aug 14 2014 ...Flash flooding and severe weather possible for portions of the Central northern Mid-Atlantic states into the northeast... ...Showers and thunderstorms continue in the southwest... Widespread showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop ahead of an unseasonably strong cold front crossing into the eastern US Tuesday in the mid Atlantic to New York, continuing into New England on Wednesday. A warm and moist airmass in place in front of this system will allow for locally heavy downpours within storms developing across the region. Flash flooding and severe weather will be possible across portions of the northern Mid-Atlantic states Tuesday, and the threat should begin to shift into Northeast by early Wednesday as the strong cold front moves east towards the New England coast. High pressure sliding in behind this system should bring dry and pleasant conditions to much of the Middle Mississippi Valley on Tuesday, which should spread southeastward into the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys by Wednesday. Hot and dry conditions across the Northwest will begin to diminish as an anomalously deep upper low and associated cold front approach the coast and move onshore, with showers and embedded thunderstorms resulting across the Pacific northwest and adjacent northern Rockies. Dry thunderstorms may exacerbate fire conditions while wet storms provide a reprieve from dry conditions. Further south, an increase in monsoonal moisture supports scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms across the Four Corners states the next few days.
