Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 340 AM EDT Wed Aug 13 2014 Valid 12Z Wed Aug 13 2014 - 12Z Fri Aug 15 2014 ...Threat for heavy rains and flash flooding will continue ahead of developing low pressure through the Northeast... ...Numerous showers and thunderstorms...with the potential for localized flash flooding...expected over the southwest... The threat for heavy rains and flash flooding will continue ahead of an area of developing low pressure moving towards the northeastern U.S.. Precipitation will come to an end as the low and attendant fronts clear the Mid-Atlantic and New England coasts...and a dry and pleasant airmass currently in place over the Midwest will move into the region. The tail end of the boundary is expected stall out and linger over the Southeast coast and Gulf coast...serving as a focus for convection along the Gulf Coast and Florida the next few days. Over the Northwest a deep upper vortex and associated cold front gradually move onshore. Showers and storms are expected over the northwest and northern Rockies in advance of this system. Red flag warnings remain in effect in interior Washington and Oregon to adjacent portions of Idaho. Farther south...areas of moisture and lift across the southwest will help ignite scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms over the Four Corners states the next few days. A plume of monsoonal moisture fueling these storms will allow for heavy downpours and could lead to localized areas of flash flooding.
