Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 300 AM EDT Thu Aug 14 2014 Valid 12Z Thu Aug 14 2014 - 12Z Sat Aug 16 2014 ...Heavy rain event winding down in New England... ...Showers and thunderstorms with flash flooding potential to impact the Desert Southwest... The continuing northward progress of the frontal boundaries and developing coastal low pressure across New England will allow the bulk of the showers and thunderstorms to depart Maine later today. Consequently, the heavy rain threat will wind down. In the wake of the system's cold front, lower humidities will follow and will make for pleasant conditions for the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic over the next few days. Monsoon moisture will continue to set off scattered convection in the Desert Southwest. With plenty of instability and moisture for the atmosphere to tap, flash flooding is a potential threat. The Pacific Northwest and portions of the Intermountain West could also see scattered showers and thunderstorms through Friday as a relatively strong upper level low moves across these regions. Low pressure reforms in the high Plains and drifts east, so showers and thunderstorms will form Friday in the northern to central high Plains with locally heavy rainfall possible. The frontal boundary that has exited off the East Coast will stall across the Southeast. South of the front, sea and lakes breezes will aid in the development of daytime showers and thunderstorms over the next couple of days in Florida.
