Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 457 PM EDT Thu Aug 14 2014 Valid 00Z Fri Aug 15 2014 - 00Z Sun Aug 17 2014 ***Improving weather for the Northeast U.S.*** ***Showers and storms for the Desert Southwest and Rockies*** ***A few rounds of thunderstorms for the Central Plains*** After all of the rain that has fallen over the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, a quality airmass is now moving into this region behind a cold front that moved offshore on Wednesday. Temperatures will be fall-like at times through Saturday, with lows in the upper 40s and 50s inland, and in the 60s near the coast. There will still be a few lingering showers near the eastern Great Lakes and into northern Maine, but it should be dry from South Carolina to central New England. The exception will be southern Georgia and Florida, while are expected to remain south of a stationary front with daily chances of showers and thunderstorms along with continued humid conditions. Monsoonal moisture over the interior western U.S. will continue to support scattered convection for the Desert Southwest and Four-Corners region. Isolated flash flooding is possible in areas where slow-moving thunderstorms develop. Additional showers and a few storms are also likely for the Pacific Northwest and the northern Rockies through Friday as a relatively strong upper level trough moves through. An area of low pressure is expected to develop over the High Plains and drift to the east, with a couple rounds of organized thunderstorm activity from the Dakotas to Missouri.
