Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 455 PM EDT Fri Aug 15 2014 Valid 00Z Sat Aug 16 2014 - 00Z Mon Aug 18 2014 ***Very pleasant weather for the Northeast U.S.*** ***Showers and storms for the Desert Southwest and Rockies*** ***A few rounds of thunderstorms for the Central Plains*** A pristine airmass has settled over the Great Lakes and Northeast U.S. with fall-like temperatures and low humidity. Cooler than normal temperatures have also arrived for the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic region. Overnight lows Friday night are expected to range from the 40s over New England to the lower 60s near the Mid-Atlantic coast. By Sunday, warmer weather is expected to arrive and it will begin feeling more like August. Hot and humid weather will continue for the Gulf Coast region since the front will not make it that far south. Scattered afternoon storms will continue each afternoon for Florida. Monsoonal moisture over the interior western U.S. will continue to support scattered convection for the Desert Southwest and Four-Corners region. Isolated flash flooding is possible in areas where slow-moving thunderstorms develop. Additional showers and a few storms are also likely for the Pacific Northwest and the northern Rockies through Saturday as a relatively strong upper level trough moves through. An area of low pressure is expected to develop over the High Plains and drift to the east, with a couple rounds of organized thunderstorm activity from the Dakotas to Missouri.
