Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 453 PM EDT Thu Sep 11 2014 Valid 00Z Fri Sep 12 2014 - 00Z Sun Sep 14 2014 ***Unseasonably cold for the northern tier states*** ***Relief from the heat arriving to the East Coast*** ***Numerous showers and storms south of the front*** A strong cold front will continue to move southeastward across the southern Plains and eastern U.S. The anomalously large high pressure area spreading southward into the northern U.S. is more reminiscent of November instead of early September, and the potential exists for record low temperatures from the northern Rockies to the Upper Midwest for the end of the week. A few lingering snow showers are also expected for Wyoming and central Colorado through Thursday night. The recent summer-like weather from the Ohio Valley to the East Coast will be over by Friday after the front exits the coast. Elsewhere across the continental U.S., scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are likely ahead of this cold front across the southern tier states. A few strong to severe storms are possible across the Gulf Coast states on Friday in the warm and humid airmass. Quiet weather is expected for the West Coast through the end of the week with no major weather systems expected. D. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
