Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 355 AM EDT Fri Sep 12 2014 Valid 12Z Fri Sep 12 2014 - 12Z Sun Sep 14 2014 ...Temperatures will be 10 to 30 degrees below average over the Plains into parts of the Great Lakes... ...Heavy rain possible over the Southern tip of Florida... ...Heavy rain possible over parts of the Western Gulf Coast and Southern High Plains... Cold high pressure has settled over Northern Plains that will move to the Ohio Valley and modify by Saturday. Along the leading edge of the cold air a quasi-stationary front extends from the Carolinas across the Gulf Coast to the Southern Rockies and beyond. A wave of low pressure will move along the boundary from the Central Gulf Coast to off the New Jersey Coast by Saturday evening. Circulation around the high pressure will aid in producing upslope flow over the Southern High Plains will develop showers and thunderstorms over the area through Saturday morning. In addition, westerly flow off the Gulf of Mexico and with the stationary front near by will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms over the Western/Central Gulf Coast into parts of the Southern Plains through Saturday. Along the eastern end of the front, showers and thunderstorms will develop along and near the boundary as the wave of low pressure rides along the front from the Southeast to parts of the Southern Mid-Atlantic through Saturday. Additional, upper-level energy over the Florida peninsula will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms over the Southern tip of Florida through Saturday, too. Meanwhile, strong upper-level energy over the Northern Plains will move eastward to roughly Northern New England by Saturday evening. The energy will produce rain over the Central Plains into parts of the Middle Mississippi Valley that will move northeasterly to the Great Lakes and to Northern New England by Saturday evening.
