Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 451 PM EDT Fri Sep 12 2014 Valid 00Z Sat Sep 13 2014 - 00Z Mon Sep 15 2014 ***Unseasonably cold for the northern tier states*** ***Relief from the heat arriving to the East Coast*** ***Numerous showers and storms south of the front*** A strong cold front has delivered a large surface high from Canada southward into the U.S., and it is feeling like fall across much of the country. It is even feeling like winter for the northern Rockies and into the Dakotas, with record lows on Friday morning. The anomalously large high pressure area is more reminiscent of November instead of mid September, and the potential exists for frost and freeze conditions overnight from the northern Plains to the Upper Midwest. Elsewhere across the continental U.S., scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are likely ahead of this cold front from Texas to Florida. Locally heavy rainfall will be possible in areas where convective activity is persistent. A wave of low pressure is forecast to track along this front across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, and bring a round of rainy weather to the region on Saturday. An upper-level low crossing the Great Lakes and Northeast will also bring periods of showers through Saturday night. Quiet weather is expected for the West Coast through the end of the week with no major weather systems expected. D. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
