Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 305 PM EDT Sun Sep 28 2014 Valid 00Z Mon Sep 29 2014 - 00Z Wed Oct 01 2014 ***Showers and thunderstorms cross the Rockies onto the Plains*** ***Locally heavy showers and storms for the eastern Gulf Coast and Southeast*** A mid-upper-level low over the Inter-Mountain West will keep a threat of showers across the central and northern Rockies tonight into Monday. In the presence of instability from the upper low and moisture transport from the south, numerous showers and storms are expected to develop over the Four Corners region and moving into the High Plains Monday and across the northern and central Plains Tuesday as the surface low intensifies. A few strong and severe thunderstorms are also likely. At the surface, a front with multiple waves of low pressure along it are expected across the northern Plains to the Upper Mississippi Valley and upper Great Lakes Sunday night and Monday. On Tuesday the cold front moves south across the Ohio Valley. Over the eastern Gulf Coast region and southeast, an inverted trough and developing coastal front will serve as a focusing mechanism for numerous showers and thunderstorms. Flood watches are in effect for potentially heavy rainfall in the Florida panhandle to adjacent Alabama and south Georgia. East of the developing storm and associated front, warm temperatures will be in place across the southern to adjacent central Plains with high temperatures Monday in the upper 80s to lower 90s. The warm air spreads east into the lower Mississippi Valley with similar temperatures Tuesday. Petersen Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
