Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 341 AM EDT Mon Sep 29 2014 Valid 12Z Mon Sep 29 2014 - 12Z Wed Oct 1 2014 ***Showers and thunderstorms for the western High Plains*** ***Locally heavy rainfall for the eastern Gulf Coast and Southeast*** ***High elevation snowfall possible for the northern Rockies*** A large upper level low lifting out of the Inter-Mountain West will keep a chance of showers in the forecast across the central and northern Rockies through Monday. For elevations above 8000 feet, snow showers are likely with light accumulations possible. As a surface low develops over the western High Plains by Tuesday, a few strong and severe thunderstorms will be possible in the warm sector of that system. It will be warm ahead of the cold front with highs reaching well into the 80s. It should remain cooler than normal over the northern Rockies behind this system. Over the eastern Gulf Coast region and southeast, an inverted trough and coastal front will serve as a focusing mechanism for numerous showers and thunderstorms. Flood watches are in effect for potentially heavy rainfall over parts of Florida and south Georgia. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
