Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 437 AM EDT Sat Oct 04 2014 Valid 12Z Sat Oct 04 2014 - 12Z Mon Oct 06 2014 ...Colder air sweeps across the eastern U.S. this weekend... The front pushing toward the East Coast will bring showers and thunderstorms mostly along the Southeast coastline and into much of the Northeast. For the most part, Saturday will be fairly dry for much of the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, with a few lingering showers in the Outer Banks on Saturday afternoon. Precipitation for the Northeast and New England will taper off by Sunday morning. Behind this front, colder temperatures filtering through the Plains will permeate eastward on Saturday and into Sunday. In fact, low temperatures for higher terrain in the Appalachians will drop below freezing on Saturday night/Sunday morning. The "coldest" day will be Sunday for much of the East Coast; however, temperatures will rebound and become warmer by Monday. In the northern Plains and Rockies, showers will begin to move southward from Canada by Saturday night. Precipitation amounts will be light and will continue to move south toward the central Plains through Monday. Elsewhere, the West Coast remains quiet and dry. Pacific fronts will move toward the British Columbia coast and only scattered showers will be briefly expected for the Pacific Northwest this weekend.
