Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 403 AM EDT Thu Oct 09 2014 Valid 12Z Thu Oct 09 2014 - 12Z Sat Oct 11 2014 ...Soaking Rains continue for the southern Plains and Mississippi Valley... Over the next few days, a frontal boundary will stretch across the Plains and eastward over the Southeast. This boundary is expected to fire off rounds of convection especially across the southern Plains and Mid-Mississippi Valley. Initially, remnant moisture from Simon currently over the Desert Southwest will meander towards the Colorado Front Range by Thursday evening. Once it moves over the central Plains on Thursday night/Friday morning, showers and thunderstorms will become more widespread across the central and southern Plains in addition to the Mid-Mississippi Valley. With the help of the frontal boundary staying put through much of the weekend, this allows for continuous convective activity. Given the nature of this, flash flooding could be a possible threat for Thursday and Friday. By Friday evening, rain will begin to spread into the Mid-Atlantic region as it continues across the Plains and Mississippi/Tennessee Valley. A cold front will begin to swoop across Texas by Saturday, which will at least propel the precipitation southeastward for portions of west and central Texas. Temperatures for the Plains, Great lakes, and Northeast are going to be cool on Friday and Saturday. Most of Texas and the Southeast can expect warmer than usual temperatures during the same time period. The West Coast continues to remain dry and warm throughout the short term period.
