Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 350 PM EDT Wed Oct 15 2014 Valid 00Z Thu Oct 16 2014 - 00Z Sat Oct 18 2014 ...Heavy rain possible from the northern Mid-Atlantic across New England... A deep storm over the Ohio Valley will lift northeastward across the Great Lakes overnight and into Southeastern Canada by Thursday evening. Moisture from the Atlantic will be lifted ahead of a slow moving cold front, aiding in the development of showers and thunderstorms. These showers and storms will be capable of producing locally heavy rain over parts of the northern Mid-Atlantic into Long Island and New England by Thursday. Showers will persist near the upper level low as it crosses the Great Lakes Thursday, and in favored terrain of the central Appalachians where the topography causes rising motion. Showers and thunderstorms in advance of the cold front will move into the Atlantic as the front clears the Florida peninsula late tonight/early Thursday. A front over the Northern High Plains into the Great Basin will move eastward to the Upper/Middle Mississippi Valley and into the Southern Plains by Thursday. The boundary will have little moisture to work with, so shower coverage will be sparse over the Northern Plains on Thursday. Upper-level energy moving onshore over the Pacific Northwest will produce rain over parts of Northern California and the Pacific Northwest that will cross the Northern Rockies by Wednesday evening, with a brief reduction in shower coverage on Thursday. Shower coverage and intensity should increase Thursday night and Friday as the next Pacific front drifts closer to the coast. Pacific moisture increases to above normal values ahead of the front, so widespread showers are expected to develop and move onshore Friday in the northwest.
