Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 328 AM EDT Fri Oct 17 2014 Valid 12Z Fri Oct 17 2014 - 12Z Sun Oct 19 2014 ***Exiting storm system over the Northeast U.S.*** ***Pacific Northwest front to deliver rain near the coast*** ***Relatively quiet weather pattern elsewhere*** The cold front and upper level low that has been responsible for all of the active weather across the eastern U.S. over the past few days is now finally beginning to lift northeastward into Canada. The state of Maine is expected to have steady rainfall through midday Friday before the main axis of precipitation exits the region. Upstream from this, lingering showers are likely across the Lower Great Lakes and the western slopes of the central Appalachians through Saturday as some short-wave energy pivots around the main upper level low over southern Canada. Another cold front is expected to reach the East Coast by Saturday night, but it should mainly be a dry frontal passage given limited moisture. Out west, another frontal system moving towards the Pacific Northwest will begin to bring rain to parts of the West Coast on Friday. Most of the rain should fall over the higher terrain of Washington and Oregon on Friday. There may be a few rain showers over parts of the northern Rockies on Saturday as some of the moisture moves inland. Given the warm nature of this system, any snow would be confined to only the highest mountains. Parts of southern Texas may see some showers and isolated thunderstorms over the weekend as moisture increases from the southeast around a surface high over the Gulf of Mexico. Elsewhere across the continental U.S., the overall weather pattern is expected to be relatively quiet through the weekend with cool, fall-like weather settling in for many states.
