Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 420 AM EDT Thu Oct 23 2014 Valid 12Z Thu Oct 23 2014 - 12Z Sat Oct 25 2014 ***Rainy weather continues for the Pacific Northwest*** ***Nor'easter continues to affect New England*** ***Heavy rain and thunderstorms for South Florida*** An active weather pattern continues across the Pacific Northwest, with strong onshore flow bringing in moisture from the Pacific Ocean, with the greatest rainfall over the coastal mountain ranges and the Cascades. By Friday morning, increased ridging aloft across the region should help to reduce the amount of rain coverage. Several inches of rainfall is possible in these areas, and this magnitude of rainfall could lead to some flash flooding. Any snowfall should be confined to the highest elevations of the Cascades. Showers and a few thunderstorms are expected near and ahead of a weakening frontal zone moving across the Midwest states. Across the Northeast U.S., a slow moving coastal storm will continue to bring periods of rain going into early Friday. By Friday evening, the cyclone pulls slowly away from the region and allows for improving conditions from west to east. A few inches of rain is possible over parts of New England through the end of the week. Across southern Florida and the Keys, periods of heavy rain with embedded thunderstorms is forecast to continue through Thursday evening as moisture from a weak tropical low intersects a stationary front to its northeast. The heaviest rainfall is likely over the Florida Keys. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
