Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 426 AM EDT Tue Oct 28 2014 Valid 12Z Tue Oct 28 2014 - 12Z Thu Oct 30 2014 ***Cold front headed towards the East Coast on Wednesday*** ***Pacific storm system to affect the Pacific Northwest*** The cold front that has been steadily advancing eastward across the Plains states is expected to reach the East Coast by Wednesday afternoon. There will be another day of above-normal temperatures from the Gulf Coast to New York state before the winds of change bring a reality check in the form of colder temperatures. Along the frontal boundary, expect a band of showers with a few thunderstorms to develop from the Deep South to the Mid-Atlantic region. Across the Great Lakes Region, cold air advection behind the cold front and northerly flow around the departing surface low over Ontario will make it feel more like November. A cold rain, with some snow mixing in at times, is likely with the shower activity that develops from Minnesota to northern Michigan. The Pacific Northwest can expect periods of rain and gusty winds through Wednesday as onshore flow and a strong Pacific storm system moves towards British Columbia. This same storm system is actually associated with the post-tropical remnants of hurricane Ana, which has tracked eastward across the open waters of the Pacific for several days. Snow is expected for the higher elevations of the Cascades and northern Rockies, and also into British Columbia. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
