Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 322 PM EST Wed Nov 05 2014 Valid 00Z Thu Nov 06 2014 - 00Z Sat Nov 08 2014 ...Heavy rains possible for Southern Texas... ...Heavy rain possible over parts of the Pacific Northwest... ...Rain and snow possible for the Northeast... A quasi-stationary front extending from south Texas to the central Appalachians will be the focus for heavy rainfall into the evening. The upper level jet over the southern Plains should weaken this evening and precipitation is expected to dwindle across the Tennessee and Lower Mississippi Valley due to lack of forcing. Heavy rain is expected to continue in south Texas where the upper level low will drive ascent over the region for the next several days. The clipper system crossing the northern Plains will bring light to moderate rain and light snow to the region. This system will interact with the decaying frontal boundary along the Appalachians and eventual form a secondary low off the Mid Atlantic coast by Thursday evening. The secondary low should intensify rapidly in the presence of a strong mid level shortwave an strengthening upper level jet. With the low along the southern New England coast Thursday evening, heavy rain will overspread the Northeast with cold air wrapping into the storm from the west. Precipitation will change over to snow in the higher terrain of upstate New York and northern New England with significant snow possible for northern Maine. Lake effect rain and snow showers will be possible in the wake of this storm on Friday along the lower Great Lakes and central Appalachians. In the Northwest, an approaching Pacific storm will move onshore over the Northwest on Thursday. The system will produce light rain over parts of the Pacific Northwest that will move inland to parts of the Northern Rockies by Thursday evening. By Friday, the system will enter the northern Plains and bring light rain to the region. Krekeler Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
