Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 351 PM EST Thu Nov 6 2014 Valid 00Z Fri Nov 7 2014 - 00Z Sun Nov 9 2014 ***Winter storm for parts of New England*** ***Rainy weather for southern Texas*** ***Cold weather for most of the country*** Northern New England will be getting a visit from Old Man Winter on Friday as a coastal storm intensifies near the coast of Maine. Winter storm watches and winter weather advisories are currently in effect from northern New York to northern Maine. Periods of rain are expected near the coast and towards the major cities of the Northeast. An upper level low moving eastward from northern Mexico will interact with a surface trough over the western Gulf of Mexico to produce widespread light to moderate rain over the southern half of Texas. The greatest rainfall is likely to fall between Brownsville and San Antonio, and near the coast. Improving weather will settle into this region in time for the weekend. Given the amplifying ridge in the West and trough in the East, much of the nation east of the Rockies is expected to be below average in the temperature department through Sunday. The cold front currently near the East Coast is bringing colder weather to the eastern U.S., and another cold front over the central U.S. this weekend will reinforce the below-average temperatures.
