Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 251 PM EST Fri Nov 7 2014 Valid 00Z Sat Nov 8 2014 - 00Z Mon Nov 10 2014 ***Improving weather for the Northeast U.S. and Texas*** ***Cold weather pattern developing for most of the country*** After a couple of busy weather days in Texas and the Northeast U.S., a quieter weather pattern in terms of precipitation can be expected across most of the country over the next couple of days. The low pressure system that produced the rain and snow over New England is now exiting towards northeastern Canada, and the upper level low that produced the rain over southern Texas is taking the bad weather over the Gulf of Mexico, with improving weather behind it. A few lake effect rain and/or snow showers are likely downwind of the Great Lakes this weekend with colder winds blowing across the warmer lake waters. This should be a minor event in terms of any snowfall accumulations. Given the amplifying ridge in the West and trough in the East, much of the nation east of the Rockies is expected to be below average in the temperature department through this weekend. The cold front that exited the East Coast Thursday night is bringing colder weather to the eastern U.S. Over the Great Plains and Upper Midwest, a stronger cold front moving southward from Canada will reinforce the cold weather over much of this region. The coldest weather of the season is expected to arrive by early next week for the northern Plains and Montana as an Arctic surface high begins moving southward. Significant snowfall is a possibility for parts of the northern Rockies as this front moves southward. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
