Cold high pressure over the Central Plains will move eastward to the Western Ohio Valley by Friday evening. Temperatures associated with the cold air mass will be 20 to near 40 degrees below average from east of the Rockies to the Mississippi Valley. Upper-level energy moving across the Great Lakes to the Northeast will aid producing lake effect snow over the Great Lakes and into parts of the Northern/Central Appalachians through Friday. The same upper-level energy will induce a wave of low pressure along the Southeast Coast that will move northeastward to about 100 miles off New England Coast by Friday morning. The system will produce light rain along parts of New England Coast and the Mid-Atlantic Coast. In addition, light snow will develop inland over parts of New England from late Thursday night into Friday morning before the precipitation moves off the Northeast Coast by Friday evening. Additionally, upper-level energy moving along the Gulf Coast will produce rain over parts of the Western/Central Gulf Coast through Thursday afternoon. Meanwhile, a weakening front will move into the West Coast on Thursday morning that will bring moisture into the West Coast that will overrun the cold air over the Northwest. The system will produce snow over parts of the interior Northwest/Great Basin that will expand into the Northern/Central Rockies Thursday evening into Friday evening. Pockets of rain/freezing rain will also develop over parts of the Washington/Oregon Cascades through Friday morning. Furthermore, rain will develop over parts of California into Coastal Pacific Northwest through Friday. Rain will also develop over parts of the Southwest/Southern Rockies by Friday evening.
