Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 356 AM EST Fri Nov 14 2014 Valid 12Z Fri Nov 14 2014 - 12Z Sun Nov 16 2014 ...The recent Arctic blast will keep temperatures below normal across much of the Nation... ...Snows expected along a frontal boundary sinking through the western U.S.... ...Accumulating snows possible for portions of the Central Plains and Middle Mississippi Valley... The winter-like weather will continue in the wake of an Arctic front that plunged through much of the Nation earlier this week. Snows impacting coastal New England should quickly lift northward early Friday...but cool air over warmer waters will keep lake effect snow showers churning downwind of the Great Lakes into the weekend. A frontal boundary stretched from the Pacific Northwest to the Rockies is expected to drop through the Western U.S. and serve as a focus for precipitation late this week and into the weekend. Temperatures will be low enough to keep precipitation predominantly snow...and orographic effects should lead to some hefty amounts in the terrain. Vigorous energy dipping into the Northwest on Friday will help spread precipitation east of the Rockies on Saturday. Moisture returning from the Gulf of Mexico could eventually lead to some heavy rains along the Texas and Louisiana coasts. Farther north...precipitation totals should stay light to moderate...but Arctic air in place could lead to accumulating snows across portions of the Central Plains and Middle Mississippi Valley.
