Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 406 AM EST Sun Nov 16 2014 Valid 12Z Sun Nov 16 2014 - 12Z Tue Nov 18 2014 ...A fresh surge of Arctic air will bring another dose of winter weather to the central and eastern U.S.... ...Heavy rains and thunderstorms expected with a surface wave lifting through the Lower Mississippi Valley... A fresh surge of Arctic air is expected with a large scale upper trough amplifying over the Central and Eastern U.S. early this week. A robust piece of energy rounding the base of the trough will spread early season snows from the Southern Rockies to the Ohio Valley while it swings out of the Southwestern U.S. on Sunday. Ahead of the robust energy...increasing return flow from the Gulf of Mexico will fuel widespread precipitation across the Deep South. The heaviest rains...and greatest potential for strong thunderstorms...will be with a developing surface low lifting through the Lower Mississippi Valley. On Monday...the low will track into the Southern Appalachians and precipitation will spread northward ahead of a cold front advancing into the Eastern U.S.. Enough cold air in place will allow for snow and freezing rain across portions of interior New England...and falling temperatures behind the advancing front should lead to snow along the Central Appalachians. The front and associated precipitation should clear the Eastern Seaboard by early Tuesday...but snow showers will continue to develop downwind of the Great Lakes.
