Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 338 AM EST Wed Dec 03 2014 Valid 12Z Wed Dec 03 2014 - 12Z Fri Dec 05 2014 ...Heavy rain possible over parts of California... A front extending from the Mid-Atlantic roughly southwestward to the Southern Plains will move eastward off the East Coast by Wednesday night and southward to the Eastern Gulf Coast by Thursday morning. Scattered area of light rain will develop along and near the boundary from the Central Appalachian to the Mid-Atlantic Coast on Wednesday morning. In addition, upper-level energy over the Great Lakes will move eastward to Eastern Canada by Thursday evening. The energy will aid in producing rain from parts of the Lower Great Lakes to the Northeast and snow over parts of Northern New England on Wednesday. In the meantime, moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will move northward and overrun the front producing an area of rain over parts of Arkansas into Northeastern Texas/Southeastern Oklahoma will slowly expand eastward to the Southern Ohio Valley/Central Appalachians by Thursday evening. The rain will also expand into the Southern High Plains, also by Thursday. Meanwhile, a weakening front will move into the California Coast and dissipate by Wednesday evening. The system will produce light to moderate rain over parts of California through Thursday morning. The rain will wane to Northern California by Thursday evening. Additionally, rain will move into parts of the Southwest/Great Basin on Thursday morning, ending by Thursday evening. Rain and higher elevation snow will develop over parts of the Pacific Northwest to parts of the Central Rockies through Thursday. Rain and highest elevation snow will move into the Northern Intermountain Region/Northern Rockies by Thursday evening.
