Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 357 PM EST Fri Dec 05 2014 Valid 00Z Sat Dec 06 2014 - 00Z Mon Dec 08 2014 ...Snow and ice expected across interior New England while severe weather will be possible for portions of the Lower Mississippi and Tennessee Valleys... A wide axis of moderate to heavy rains will continue to develop to the north of a frontal boundary stretched from the Middle Mississippi Valley to the Mid-Atlantic coast. A wave of low pressure along the front is expected to lift through the Ohio Valley this weekend...spreading precipitation into the northeastern U.S.. Although most precipitation will fall as rain...cold air wedging down from a surface high set up near Newfoundland will bring snow and ice across interior New England. Farther south...showers and potentially severe thunderstorms are expected to breakout ahead of the southern portion of the boundary while it presses eastward as a cold front through the Lower Mississippi and Tennessee Valleys. Upstream...strong high pressure sliding in from Canada will keep much of the middle of the country dry this weekend and should push the front in the east and associated precipitation offshore by early Sunday. Widespread precipitation is expected with a Pacific system moving inland over the western U.S. Friday night into Saturday. Moist onshore flow into the terrain will cause heavy rains over Northern California and along the Washington and Oregon coasts...and snow is expected for the higher elevations.
